The Approach
Technology for Mindfulness is founded on the belief that technology itself is not inherently good or bad. It is how we interact with it that influences how it affects our lives.
In order to harness the benefits of technology, we must learn to become aware of those habitual interactions. We must RESET our minds and REFLECT on our habits and behaviors, in order to RECONNECT with the world around us as the best versions of ourselves.
To do that, we need O.R.D.E.R. – our proprietary method that is based on traditional martial arts training to enable people to transition from a reactive state into a proactive state in relation to technology.
Observe
The first step in this method is to observe yourself and your surroundings. Observe things such as your phone, computer, and notifications, as well as your thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations.
Reflect
Take a moment to reflect on what you’ve observed. This pause and reflection brings your mind into the present moment and integrates your observations with your thoughts and feelings.
Decide
Based on your thoughts, intentions, observations, and reflections, you now have the opportunity to make an informed and wise decision about how to act, rather than an impulsive one.
Execute
The next step is to act on your decision with your mind, body, and spirit.
Repeat
Now that you’ve acted, it’s time to go back and observe yourself and your surroundings to repeat this process. The only constant is change, and returning to observing enables you to adapt flexibly and intentionally to that change.
